Classic Strawberry Sangria
A refreshing and perfectly balanced Spanish style wine punch featuring fresh strawberries and dry rosé.
dailyrecipesbook.comIf you love berries and a good glass of wine, you really must try this strawberry sangria. Unlike many versions that taste like sugary fruit juice, this recipe follows the Spanish tradition of keeping things balanced, letting the bright notes of the wine and the fresh berries shine through.
It is incredibly easy to put together for a weekend gathering or a sunny afternoon on the patio. The secret is macerating the berries first to get the best possible flavor, followed by a short chill in the fridge to let everything come together beautifully.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 bottle dry rosé wine (750ml)
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur, such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
- 1/2 orange, thinly sliced
- 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
- A few sprigs of fresh mint
- Sparkling water for serving
Instructions
- 1
In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with the sugar. Let them sit at room temperature for 20 minutes to macerate.
- 2
Transfer the sugared berries to a blender and process until completely smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove the seeds.
- 3
Add the rosé wine and the orange liqueur to the pitcher with the strawberry puree.
- 4
Gently stir in the orange slices, lemon slices, and extra fresh strawberry slices if you like.
- 5
Tuck in a few sprigs of fresh mint and place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- 6
When ready to serve, pour into glasses over ice and top with a splash of sparkling water if desired.
💡 Tips
For the best flavor, serve this drink within 4 hours of making it so the fruit stays fresh and crisp. You can prep the berry puree ahead of time, but wait to combine it with the wine and citrus until shortly before your guests arrive.
