There is something truly special about the smell of dried herbs hitting a hot pan. This classic French mixture is my go to when I want to make a simple weeknight meal taste like something from a bistro. It has a beautiful earthy aroma that works perfectly with just about anything you have in the pantry.

I love keeping a small jar of this on hand for busy evenings. You can sprinkle it over roasted chicken or mix it with a little olive oil to coat potatoes before they go into the oven. It is a total lifesaver when you need a quick boost of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons dried savory
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon dried lavender buds

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure all the dried herbs into a small bowl.

  2. 2

Use a mortar and pestle or your clean fingers to gently crush the herbs as you mix them together to help release their natural oils.

  3. 3

Transfer the blend to a small glass jar or airtight container for storage.

  4. 4

Use about one teaspoon of the blend for every pound of meat or vegetables you are cooking.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your herb blend in a cool and dark pantry to keep the flavor fresh for up to six months. Try adding a pinch to your next batch of homemade soup or whisk it into a vinaigrette for a fresh salad dressing.
