Steak is a regular part of my dinner rotation, but I am always looking for ways to keep it interesting. Brushing your steak with oyster sauce while it sears creates an incredible crust that is both savory and slightly sweet.

It is the simplest trick I have found for a quick dinner. You do not need fancy marinades or long prep times to get a restaurant style finish right in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound steak of your choice
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat the steak dry with paper towels and season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

Heat the oil in a heavy skillet over medium high heat until it is shimmering.

  3. 3

Place the steak in the pan and sear it to your desired level of doneness, flipping it as needed.

  4. 4

During the last minute of cooking, brush a generous layer of oyster sauce over the top of the steak.

  5. 5

Flip the steak for just a few seconds to caramelize the glaze, then remove it from the pan.

  6. 6

Let the steak rest for five minutes before slicing so the juices stay inside.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this steak alongside some steamed rice or fresh green beans to soak up any extra glaze from the pan. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
