There is nothing quite like a warm scone straight from the oven. These are my favorite because they stay soft in the middle while getting those lovely crisp, golden edges that we all love.

The secret here is using Greek yogurt, which keeps the dough moist and rich without making it too heavy. If you want a little extra sparkle, you can sprinkle a tiny bit of coarse sugar over the tops right before they go into the oven.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Stir in the chocolate chips.

  5. 5

In a separate small bowl, whisk the Greek yogurt, egg, and vanilla extract together.

  6. 6

Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and stir until just combined. The dough will be a bit shaggy.

  7. 7

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into an eight inch circle.

  8. 8

Cut the circle into eight equal wedges using a sharp knife.

  9. 9

Place the wedges on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until they are lightly golden brown.

  10. 10

Let them cool on the pan for a few minutes before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your leftover scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you want to warm them up, a quick minute in the toaster oven brings back that fresh texture. These also freeze wonderfully if you wrap them tightly in plastic.
