Classic Christmas Crack Toffee
This buttery, crunchy toffee is the perfect holiday treat that everyone loves to snack on.
dailyrecipesbook.comChristmas Crack is a holiday staple in my kitchen because it is so easy to make. You get that perfect crunch from the saltine crackers combined with a rich buttery toffee and a layer of smooth melted chocolate on top.
Since you do not need a candy thermometer for this, it is a great recipe for beginners. My favorite tip is to sprinkle some sea salt over the top while the chocolate is still wet to balance out all that sweetness.
Ingredients
- 40 saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2
Line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and grease it lightly with butter or non stick spray.
- 3
Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the bottom of the baking sheet.
- 4
Combine the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- 5
Bring the mixture to a boil and let it bubble for three minutes without stirring.
- 6
Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers.
- 7
Bake for 5 minutes until the toffee is bubbling all over.
- 8
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top.
- 9
Wait two minutes for the chocolate to soften, then spread it into an even layer with a spatula.
- 10
Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the chocolate and press them down gently.
- 11
Place the tray in the freezer for about 20 minutes to set, then break the toffee into pieces with your hands.
๐ก Tips
Store your leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks. If you prefer a salty finish, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top before the chocolate hardens.
