Classic Homemade Apple Pie
A timeless dessert that features a buttery, flaky crust and a sweet, spiced apple filling.
There is nothing quite like the smell of a fresh apple pie baking in the oven. It brings back wonderful memories of family gatherings and cozy afternoons spent in the kitchen.
My best tip for success is to keep your butter cold when making the dough. This ensures the crust turns out perfectly flaky every single time you bake it.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small bits
Instructions
- 1
Mix the flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter to mix until the texture looks like coarse crumbs.
- 2
Drizzle in the ice water one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently until the dough just starts to come together. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap them in plastic, and chill for one hour.
- 3
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 4
Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a large bowl.
- 5
Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface and place it into a nine inch pie dish. Pour the apple mixture inside and dot the top with the small bits of butter.
- 6
Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the apples. Trim the edges, seal them, and cut a few slits in the top to let steam escape.
- 7
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
๐ก Tips
