There is something truly special about a classic Bolognese sauce simmering on the stove. It is the kind of meal that brings everyone to the table, and it is honestly even better when you reheat the leftovers the next day because the flavors have more time to mingle.

My biggest tip for this recipe is to take your time browning the meat. Getting a nice deep color on the ground beef really builds a wonderful foundation of flavor before you add the rest of the ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package directions.

  2. 2

While the pasta water heats up, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until it is fully cooked through.

  3. 3

Drain off any excess fat from the skillet, then add the diced onion and garlic to the meat.

  4. 4

Sautรฉ the onions and garlic until they are soft and fragrant.

  5. 5

Stir in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil, then season with salt and pepper.

  6. 6

Let the sauce simmer on low heat for at least 15 minutes to let the flavors develop.

  7. 7

Drain the pasta and toss it directly into the sauce or serve the sauce over individual portions of noodles.

  8. 8

Top each plate with a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can serve this with a side of crusty garlic bread or a crisp green salad to round out the meal.
