There is nothing quite like a slow cooked Italian beef sandwich to make the whole house smell amazing. We love this meal because the beef gets so tender it practically melts, and the savory juices are perfect for dipping your crusty rolls.

To get the best results, make sure you let the beef rest before you slice it. If you want to keep things authentic, feel free to add a spoonful of spicy giardiniera or some cooked bell peppers right on top before serving.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 crusty Italian rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • Optional spicy giardiniera for topping

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the beef chuck roast into your slow cooker.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, mix the beef broth, oregano, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper together.

  3. 3

Pour the broth mixture over the beef.

  4. 4

Cover and cook on low for 8 hours until the meat is very tender.

  5. 5

Remove the beef from the pot and shred it using two forks.

  6. 6

Return the shredded beef to the liquid and stir it well.

  7. 7

Slice your rolls open and place a slice of provolone cheese on each one.

  8. 8

Toast the rolls in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  9. 9

Pile the warm beef onto the toasted rolls and spoon a little extra juice over the top.

  10. 10

Serve with small bowls of the cooking liquid on the side for dipping.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover beef in an airtight container with the juices to keep it moist for up to three days. If you like a kick of heat, top your sandwich with plenty of giardiniera before serving.
