There is something so satisfying about a hot Philly cheesesteak. It is the perfect meal when you want something savory and indulgent that comes together quickly in your own kitchen.

Most people love this recipe because the beef gets so tender and pairs perfectly with the melted cheese. My best tip is to freeze your steak for about twenty minutes before slicing it because this makes it much easier to get those paper thin strips.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

  2. 2

Add the onions to the pan and cook them until they are soft and golden brown, then remove them from the skillet.

  3. 3

Place the sliced steak in the same skillet and cook until it is browned and no longer pink.

  4. 4

Season the meat with salt and pepper.

  5. 5

Add the cooked onions back into the pan with the meat and stir everything together.

  6. 6

Divide the meat and onion mixture into four portions and top each with two slices of provolone cheese until melted.

  7. 7

Scoop each portion into a hoagie roll and serve immediately while warm.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

These sandwiches taste best when served right away while the cheese is gooey. If you have leftovers, store the meat and rolls separately in the fridge so the bread does not get soggy. You can reheat the meat mixture gently in a pan on the stove.
