There is nothing quite like the combination of creamy peanut butter and sweet buttercream. This frosting has a wonderful nutty flavor and a light texture that makes it ideal for piping onto chocolate cupcakes or spreading over a sheet cake.

My favorite trick for getting the texture just right is to make sure your butter is softened to room temperature before you start. If the frosting feels a little too stiff, just add a tiny splash of milk or cream to reach your preferred consistency.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the softened butter and creamy peanut butter in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Use an electric mixer to beat the butter and peanut butter together on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and combined.

  3. 3

Slowly add the powdered sugar one cup at a time while mixing on low speed to avoid a cloud of sugar in your kitchen.

  4. 4

Pour in the vanilla extract, salt, and two tablespoons of cream.

  5. 5

Increase the mixer speed to medium high and beat the frosting for about three minutes until it becomes light and fluffy.

  6. 6

Check the consistency and add another tablespoon of cream if you want a thinner frosting for spreading.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Let it come back to room temperature and give it a quick whip with your mixer before using it again. This frosting pairs beautifully with chocolate or banana flavored baked goods.
