There is nothing quite like coming home to the smell of slow cooked pork. This recipe is a favorite in my house because it turns a simple cut of meat into something truly special with very little effort. The combination of beer and vinegar creates a rich sauce that keeps the meat juicy and flavorful.

My top tip is to be patient while the pork cooks. Letting it braise slowly in the oven ensures that the meat becomes perfectly tender, making it a breeze to shred once it is done. It is the perfect meal for feeding a crowd or just prepping food for the week.

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 pound pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 12 ounces of your favorite beer
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke, optional

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Mix the brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a small bowl to make your dry rub.

  3. 3

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder until it is well coated.

  4. 4

Heat a splash of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium high heat and sear the pork on all sides until it is nicely browned.

  5. 5

Pour the beer, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke into the pot around the pork.

  6. 6

Cover the Dutch oven with a lid and transfer it to the oven.

  7. 7

Bake for 3 to 4 hours or until the meat is very tender and pulls apart easily with a fork.

  8. 8

Remove the pork from the pot and shred it on a cutting board, then mix it back into the juices before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this pork on toasted buns with a side of coleslaw or pile it onto nachos for a fun dinner. If you have leftovers, store the meat in its juices in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
