There is something so comforting about a warm chocolate chip cookie, but sometimes you just want the ease of a pan recipe. These bars come out soft and chewy every time, making them a favorite for busy weeknights or school lunches.

My secret for the best texture is to pull them out of the oven just before you think they are fully done. They will finish setting as they cool on the counter, keeping them nice and soft in the middle.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. 3

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

Slowly mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.

  5. 5

Fold in the chocolate chips by hand.

  6. 6

Spread the dough evenly into your prepared baking pan.

  7. 7

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

  8. 8

Let the bars cool completely in the pan before you cut them into squares.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store these in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days. If you like a little extra texture, you can sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt over the top as soon as they come out of the oven.
