This creamy tomato pasta has become a staple in my kitchen because it is so satisfying and easy to put together. The balance of tangy tomatoes and smooth cream creates a sauce that coats every strand of pasta perfectly.

My best tip for this recipe is to save a little bit of the pasta water before you drain it. Stirring that starchy water into your sauce helps everything cling to the noodles beautifully and keeps the texture silky smooth.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces penne or your favorite pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the package directions until it is al dente.

  2. 2

While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

  3. 3

Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about one minute until it smells fragrant, but be careful not to let it brown.

  4. 4

Pour in the tomato sauce and dried basil, then let it simmer gently for 5 minutes.

  5. 5

Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, continuing to cook until the sauce is smooth and heated through.

  6. 6

Drain the pasta and add it directly to the pan with the sauce, tossing well to coat every piece.

  7. 7

Season with salt and pepper to your liking and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. If the sauce thickens too much while reheating, just add a tiny splash of water or milk to bring back that creamy consistency.
