There is nothing quite like coming home to a warm bowl of pasta, but I usually dread the cleanup. This recipe cooks the noodles and the meat sauce right in the same pan, which makes the pasta extra starchy and flavorful. It is a classic comfort meal that my family asks for every single week.

My best advice is to keep an eye on the liquid levels as the pasta cooks. If it looks a little dry before the noodles are soft, just splash in a tiny bit more water or broth. You will love how much time you save by only scrubbing one pot after dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 ounces spaghetti, broken in half
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the ground beef and diced onion to the pot. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are soft, then drain any excess grease.

  3. 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about one minute until it smells fragrant.

  4. 4

Pour in the marinara sauce, beef broth, and water. Stir everything well to combine.

  5. 5

Add the broken spaghetti noodles into the liquid, making sure they are mostly submerged.

  6. 6

Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn the heat down to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 10 to 12 minutes.

  7. 7

Remove the lid and stir frequently during the last few minutes to make sure the noodles do not stick to the bottom.

  8. 8

Once the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened to your liking, season with salt and pepper.

  9. 9

Serve warm with a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. When reheating, add a small splash of water to keep the sauce from getting too thick. This meal goes perfectly with a side of toasted garlic bread and a crisp green salad.
