If you love classic comfort food, these baked beans are exactly what you need. They are simple to prepare and feature that rich, savory flavor that feels like home. The combination of crispy bacon, sweet brown sugar, and tender navy beans makes them an absolute favorite for potlucks and weekend cookouts.

My best tip for this recipe is to keep an eye on them during those final minutes in the oven. Taking the foil off at the end helps the sauce thicken up beautifully and gives you that perfect texture every single time.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces diced bacon
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cans (15.5 ounce each) navy beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until it is nice and crispy.

  3. 3

Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon, then add the diced onion to the bacon grease left in the pan.

  4. 4

Cook the onion until it is soft and tender.

  5. 5

In a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, combine the cooked bacon, onions, navy beans, chicken broth, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.

  6. 6

Stir everything together until well combined.

  7. 7

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

  8. 8

Remove the foil and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened to your liking.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months. These beans are actually wonderful when made a day ahead, as the flavors have more time to blend together before you reheat them.
