There is something so comforting about the smell of cinnamon and apples baking in the oven. These bars have a soft crust and a sweet apple filling that makes them a favorite for families and guests alike.

My best advice is to use a crisp apple variety like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp because they hold their shape perfectly during baking. They taste wonderful when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. 3

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl before slowly adding these dry ingredients into the butter mixture.

  5. 5

Spread about two thirds of the dough into the bottom of your prepared pan to create the base layer.

  6. 6

Toss the apple slices with the cinnamon in a medium bowl until they are evenly coated.

  7. 7

Arrange the cinnamon apples over the dough base and drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough over the top.

  8. 8

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

  9. 9

Let the bars cool completely in the pan before drizzling with caramel sauce and cutting into squares.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store these bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you prefer them warm, pop a square in the microwave for ten seconds before serving.
