Homemade Classic Churros
These homemade churros are perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft inside with a dusting of sweet cinnamon sugar.
dailyrecipesbook.comThere is something so special about biting into a warm churro fresh from the fryer. These treats are surprisingly easy to make at home and always feel like a little celebration whenever I serve them to my family.
My best advice is to keep a close eye on the oil temperature. If it is too hot the outside will brown before the center is cooked through, so medium heat is definitely your friend here.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- 1/2 cup white sugar for coating
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- 1
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- 2
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
- 3
Heat the frying oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 4
Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- 5
Pipe strips of dough directly into the hot oil, using kitchen scissors to cut the dough to your desired length.
- 6
Fry the churros until they are golden brown on all sides, then drain them briefly on paper towels.
- 7
Mix the remaining sugar and cinnamon together in a shallow bowl and roll the warm churros in the mixture until they are well coated.
๐ก Tips
Serve these warm with a side of melted chocolate or dulce de leche for dipping. If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container for a day and refresh them in a warm oven for a few minutes. Make sure not to overcrowd your pan while frying so the oil temperature stays steady.
