Homemade Pizza Burgers
These quick and cheesy pizza burgers on toasted English muffins are a nostalgic, kid friendly meal that is perfect for busy weeknights.
dailyrecipesbook.comThese pizza burgers are a total staple from my childhood. My grandma used to make these all the time, and I am so happy to keep the tradition alive in my own kitchen. They have that perfect combination of crispy English muffins, savory meat sauce, and plenty of melty cheese that just feels like comfort food.
I love these because they are so easy to pull together when you are short on time. You can make a batch ahead of time and keep them in the freezer for whenever you need a fast lunch or a quick dinner before running out the door. My favorite tip is to add some chopped pepperoncinis for a little extra tang, but they are delicious just as they are.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 pound ground turkey, chicken, or Italian sausage
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, reduce if using Italian sausage
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, for the filling
- 1/2 cup chopped pepperoncini, optional
- 6 to 8 English muffin halves
- 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, for the topping
- 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- 1
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- 2
Add the ground meat and cook until browned, then stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and salt.
- 3
Pour in the marinara sauce and stir everything together, then remove from the heat and stir in the first half cup of mozzarella cheese and the pepperoncini if using.
- 4
Mix the melted butter with the grated garlic in a small bowl.
- 5
Place the English muffin halves face up on a baking sheet and brush them generously with the garlic butter.
- 6
Spoon the meat mixture onto each muffin half, then top with the remaining mozzarella and the grated Parmesan.
- 7
To bake immediately, heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 5 to 7 minutes, then broil briefly until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- 8
Alternatively, cook them in an air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 to 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- 9
To freeze, place the assembled burgers on a sheet pan in the freezer until solid, then transfer them to a freezer bag for storage. Reheat from frozen in the air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 to 8 minutes.
๐ก Tips
Try serving these alongside some crunchy cucumber slices for a fresh contrast. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for a day or two, but they really are best when cooked straight from the freezer.
