We all have those days when there is simply no time to bake a pie from scratch. Store bought pies are a wonderful shortcut, and with a little extra care, they can taste almost as good as one made in your own kitchen.

My favorite trick is to warm the pie slightly and add a really high quality topping. These small touches make a huge difference in the final flavor and presentation.

Ingredients

  • 1 store bought apple or fruit pie
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans or walnuts
  • Optional scoop of high quality vanilla bean ice cream

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Place the pie on a baking sheet and warm it in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes until it is just heated through.

  3. 3

While the pie warms, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  4. 4

Remove the pie from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes.

  5. 5

Serve warm slices topped with a generous dollop of the fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of toasted nuts.

  6. 6

Add a scoop of ice cream on the side if you want an extra indulgent treat.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover pie in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Keep your whipped cream in the refrigerator until the very last second so it stays nice and firm on top of the warm pie.
