If you have ever felt that traditional buttercream is just too sugary, this whipped frosting is going to be your new favorite go to. It has a lovely texture that holds its shape well, making it a dream to pipe onto cupcakes or spread over a layer cake without feeling overly heavy.

My top tip is to make sure your heavy cream is very cold before you start whipping. If the kitchen is warm, you can even pop your mixing bowl in the fridge for a few minutes first to ensure the cream whips up into the perfect stable peaks.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Pour the cold heavy whipping cream into a large chilled mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer with the whisk attachment to beat the cream on medium speed.

  3. 3

Once the cream begins to thicken slightly, add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and the pinch of salt.

  4. 4

Continue to whip on medium high speed until stiff peaks form, being careful not to overbeat the mixture into butter.

  5. 5

Use the frosting immediately for the best results on your favorite cakes or cupcakes.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Since this contains dairy, store any frosted cakes in the refrigerator. If you are not using it right away, keep the frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one day and give it a quick whisk before using.
