If you struggle with mushy or burnt rice, baking it in the oven is the best trick you will ever learn. It frees up your stove for other parts of the meal, and the steady heat helps every grain cook evenly without needing to stir or fuss.

My biggest tip is to use boiling water when you start. It helps the rice cook faster and prevents it from sticking to the bottom of your baking dish. Just cover it tightly with foil to keep all that moisture trapped inside.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups long grain white rice
  • 2.5 cups boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Add the rice, salt, and butter into an 8x8 inch baking dish.

  3. 3

Pour the boiling water over the rice mixture and stir it just once to combine everything.

  4. 4

Cover the dish very tightly with a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil to trap the steam.

  5. 5

Bake for 30 minutes until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  6. 6

Remove from the oven and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can easily reheat it in the microwave with a tiny splash of water to keep it fluffy. This makes a great base for stir fries or burrito bowls.
