Boiled corn is a true classic for summer dinners. When you get the timing just right, each kernel stays crisp and juicy instead of getting mushy or tough. It is the best way to let the natural sweetness of fresh corn shine.

My top tip is to add a pinch of sugar to your boiling water. It really enhances the flavor of the corn. Just be sure to keep an eye on the clock so you do not overcook those beautiful cobs.

Ingredients

  • 4 ears of fresh sweet corn, husked and silk removed
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

Stir in the sugar until it is fully dissolved.

  3. 3

Carefully drop the husked corn into the boiling water.

  4. 4

Cover the pot and let the corn cook for exactly five minutes.

  5. 5

Use tongs to remove the corn from the water and place it on a platter.

  6. 6

Rub the butter over the hot corn and sprinkle with salt and pepper before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this corn immediately while it is piping hot for the best texture. If you have leftovers, cut the kernels off the cob and store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
