If you love a good cheesesteak but want something faster for a busy weeknight, this recipe is for you. It takes all those savory flavors you crave and turns them into a hearty, saucy mixture that is perfect for piling onto soft buns.

My family loves these because they feel like a treat but come together in less than thirty minutes. Pro tip, use a mix of provolone and mozzarella for the best cheese pull.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices provolone cheese, torn into pieces
  • 4 hoagie rolls or hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

  2. 2

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, making sure to break it up with a spoon as it cooks.

  3. 3

Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the beef and cook for about five minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  4. 4

Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, salt, and pepper.

  5. 5

Turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about five minutes until the liquid has reduced and the flavors have blended.

  6. 6

Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the pieces of provolone cheese until they are melted and gooey.

  7. 7

Spoon the beef mixture generously onto your buns and serve while hot.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

These are best served immediately while the cheese is nice and melted. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat them in a pan with a splash of extra beef broth.
