This Thai Basil Beef is one of my go to recipes when I want something flavorful but fast. The secret is the velveted beef, which stays incredibly silky and tender even after a quick sear in the pan.

You will love the combination of crisp peppers, savory sauce, and that aromatic punch of fresh basil at the end. Make sure to have all your ingredients chopped and ready before you turn on the stove, as this dish cooks very quickly over high heat.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, toss the beef slices with the cornstarch and the first tablespoon of soy sauce until well coated.

  2. 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.

  3. 3

Add the beef to the pan in a single layer and sear for about two minutes until browned, then remove it from the pan and set it aside.

  4. 4

In the same pan, add the bell pepper and onion. Stir fry for two or three minutes until they start to soften but still have a nice crunch.

  5. 5

Stir in the garlic and cook for about thirty seconds until fragrant.

  6. 6

Return the beef to the pan and add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, and sugar.

  7. 7

Toss everything together for one minute to coat the meat and vegetables in the sauce.

  8. 8

Turn off the heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves until they are just wilted, then serve immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this over a bowl of steamed jasmine rice to soak up the savory sauce. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days and reheat gently on the stovetop.
