Refreshing Hibiscus Iced Tea
This vibrant ruby red tea is a naturally caffeine free drink that tastes just like a crisp cranberry cooler.
dailyrecipesbook.comHibiscus iced tea, often called agua de jamaica, is one of my favorite drinks to keep in the fridge during the warmer months. It has a beautiful, deep red color and a lovely tart flavor that is perfect for cooling down on a hot afternoon.
You can prepare this using a slow cold brew method if you want to plan ahead, or use the quick hot steep method when you need a drink right away. It is wonderful on its own, but feel free to add your favorite sweetener or a splash of sparkling water for a little extra fizz.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers
- 8 cups water
- Simple syrup, granulated sugar, honey, or agave to taste (optional)
Instructions
- 1
For the cold brew method, combine the hibiscus flowers and water in a large pitcher or jar.
- 2
Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours.
- 3
Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve, making sure to press on the flowers to get all the liquid out.
- 4
For the hot steep method, place the hibiscus flowers in a large heatproof pitcher or bowl.
- 5
Bring 4 cups of the water to a boil and pour it directly over the hibiscus flowers.
- 6
Let the mixture steep for about 15 minutes.
- 7
Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve, pressing on the flowers to extract the flavor.
- 8
Stir in your preferred sweetener while the tea is still warm, then stir in the remaining 4 cups of cold water.
- 9
Refrigerate the tea until it is well chilled before serving over ice.
π‘ Tips
You can store this tea in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For a fancy touch, try adding a cinnamon stick or a few slices of fresh ginger while the tea steeps, or serve it with a fresh squeeze of lime.
