Simple Salt Baked Seabass
A beautiful whole fish baked in a salt crust that keeps every bite incredibly moist and flavorful.
dailyrecipesbook.comSalt baking might sound a bit fancy, but it is actually one of the easiest ways to cook a whole fish at home. The thick layer of salt acts like a little oven, trapping the steam inside to ensure your seabass stays tender and juicy without any effort. You will love how the kitchen smells while this is in the oven.
My top tip for this recipe is to make sure your fish is completely dry before you start. It helps the salt crust stay in place and makes it much easier to crack open once the baking is finished.
Ingredients
- 1 whole seabass, cleaned and scaled
- 4 cups coarse sea salt
- 2 egg whites
- 1 lime, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, smashed
- 2 sprigs fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2
In a large bowl, mix the coarse sea salt with the egg whites and water until the texture resembles wet sand.
- 3
Stuff the cavity of the cleaned fish with the lime slices, garlic cloves, and parsley sprigs.
- 4
Spread a thin layer of the salt mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, creating a bed about the same size as your fish.
- 5
Place the fish on top of the salt bed and cover the entire fish with the remaining salt mixture, pressing down gently to seal it in completely.
- 6
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the salt crust feels hard and golden.
- 7
Remove from the oven and carefully crack the salt crust with the back of a large spoon to reveal the fish inside.
- 8
Remove the skin and gently lift the fillets away from the bones before serving.
๐ก Tips
Serve this with a simple side of roasted vegetables or a crisp green salad. You can store any leftover fish in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. Make sure to remove all traces of salt from the fish before storing.
