If you love a hearty Sloppy Joe sandwich, you are going to adore this pizza version. It uses a buttery garlic bread base to support that savory, tangy meat sauce we all remember from childhood. It is the perfect comfort food for a busy weeknight when you want something satisfying.

My favorite thing about this recipe is how quickly it comes together using store bought pizza dough or a pre baked crust. Just make sure to drain the grease well from the beef so your crust stays nice and crispy instead of getting soggy in the middle.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 pre baked pizza crust or a tube of refrigerated pizza dough
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is browned and the onion is soft.

  3. 3

Drain the excess grease from the pan.

  4. 4

Stir the ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar into the beef mixture and let it simmer for five minutes until thickened.

  5. 5

Place your pizza crust on a baking sheet.

  6. 6

Whisk the melted butter and garlic powder together, then brush the mixture all over the top of the pizza crust.

  7. 7

Spread the meat mixture evenly over the crust, leaving a small border for the edges.

  8. 8

Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese generously over the meat layer.

  9. 9

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the crust are golden brown.

  10. 10

Top with chopped green onions before slicing and serving warm.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover pizza in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. To reheat, pop the slices in a toaster oven or a regular oven at 350 degrees until the cheese melts again. This keeps the crust much crispier than using a microwave.
