Canned vegetables are a fantastic backup to have in your pantry when you want to get dinner on the table quickly. Many people overlook them, but they are a great way to make sure you always have something green and healthy ready to go.

This simple sauté takes only a few minutes and turns basic pantry staples into a flavorful side dish. My best tip is to drain and rinse the vegetables well under cold water to remove any extra salt before you start cooking.

Ingredients

  • 1 can green beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Drain and rinse your green beans and peas thoroughly in a colander.

  2. 2

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  3. 3

Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about one minute until it smells wonderful.

  4. 4

Pour in the green beans and peas, stirring to coat them in the garlic oil.

  5. 5

Season with salt, black pepper, and the optional red pepper flakes.

  6. 6

Cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the vegetables are heated through and lightly browned.

  7. 7

Serve warm as a side dish.

💡 Tips

These veggies taste great served alongside grilled chicken or fish. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can also toss them into a soup or a pasta dish for extra color and nutrition.
