There is something so comforting about a plate of sticky, glazed meatballs. These are perfect when you want a flavorful meal that does not require standing over the stove for hours because the oven does most of the heavy lifting for you.

My family loves these as an easy weeknight dinner served over fluffy rice. If you have leftovers, they keep well in the fridge and taste even better the next day once the sauce has settled into the meat.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, and half of the minced garlic until well combined.

  3. 3

Shape the mixture into small balls and place them on your prepared baking sheet.

  4. 4

Bake the meatballs for 15 to 20 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned.

  5. 5

While the meatballs bake, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, and the remaining garlic in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  6. 6

Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  7. 7

Add the cooked meatballs to the pan with the sauce and toss them gently until they are fully coated.

  8. 8

Serve immediately with a sprinkle of chopped green onions on top.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

These are great served as an appetizer with toothpicks for a party. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can easily reheat them in a pan over low heat with a splash of water to loosen the glaze.
