Classic Fat Ronnie Style Burger
A juicy and satisfying burger that captures the magic of a Martha's Vineyard summer staple.
There is something special about a classic burger that is cooked just right. This recipe focuses on keeping things simple and high quality so that every bite tastes like a vacation on the coast.
My biggest tip is to keep your meat very cold until the second it hits the hot grill. This trick helps hold the juices inside the patty instead of letting them melt away into the fire.
Ingredients
- 1 pound high quality ground beef with 20 percent fat
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 brioche burger buns
- 4 slices American or cheddar cheese
- 4 leaves green leaf lettuce
- 4 thick slices beefsteak tomato
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- Your favorite burger sauce or ketchup and mustard
Instructions
- 1
Divide the cold ground beef into four equal portions and gently shape them into patties about an inch thick.
- 2
Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to keep them flat while they cook.
- 3
Season the outside of each patty generously with salt and pepper right before you are ready to cook.
- 4
Preheat your grill or a heavy skillet to medium high heat.
- 5
Place the patties on the heat and cook for about 4 minutes per side for medium doneness.
- 6
Add a slice of cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the grill or pan to help it melt.
- 7
Lightly toast your buns on the grill while the meat rests for a few minutes.
- 8
Assemble your burgers by adding the patty to the bun and topping with lettuce, tomato, onion, and your favorite condiments.
๐ก Tips
Serve these burgers immediately while the cheese is gooey and hot. If you have leftovers, store the patties and buns separately in the fridge for up to two days and reheat the meat in a pan over medium heat.
