Classic Italian Sub Sandwich
This is the perfect deli style sandwich stacked with savory meats and fresh toppings.
dailyrecipesbook.comThere is something so satisfying about a great Italian sub. I love making these at home because I can pack them with exactly the ingredients I crave, and it always tastes just as good as the local sandwich shop down the street.
My biggest tip is to use the best bread you can find. A sturdy roll that holds up to all the dressing and meat is essential for a sandwich that does not get soggy before you finish the first bite.
Ingredients
- 1 long sub roll or hoagie bun
- 3 slices Genoa salami
- 3 slices capicola
- 3 slices mortadella
- 2 slices provolone or fresh mozzarella
- Handful of shredded iceberg lettuce
- 3 thin slices of tomato
- 3 thin slices of red onion
- 4 banana pepper rings
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- 1 pinch dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1
Slice your sub roll open lengthwise but keep the hinge attached.
- 2
Layer the salami, capicola, and mortadella onto the bread.
- 3
Place the cheese slices over the meat.
- 4
Top with the shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and banana peppers.
- 5
Drizzle the olive oil and red wine vinegar over the sandwich fillings.
- 6
Sprinkle with dried oregano, salt, and pepper before closing the sandwich and serving.
๐ก Tips
To prevent the bread from getting soft, you can place the meat directly against the bread and put the moist vegetables in the middle. These sandwiches taste best when eaten right away, but you can keep the components separate in the fridge for a quick lunch assembly later.
