There is nothing quite like a warm Cuban sandwich. It is the perfect mix of salty ham, tender roasted pork, and tangy pickles all pressed together until the cheese is perfectly melted.

My favorite thing about this recipe is how the bread gets that signature golden crunch. If you do not have a sandwich press, you can easily use a heavy skillet to get the same result at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread or French bread
  • 4 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced roasted pork
  • 8 ounces sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 cup sliced dill pickles
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the bread in half lengthwise to create your top and bottom layers.

  2. 2

Spread a generous amount of mustard on the inside of both pieces of bread.

  3. 3

Layer the Swiss cheese, roasted pork, ham, and pickles onto the bottom half of the bread.

  4. 4

Place the top half of the bread over the fillings.

  5. 5

Spread the softened butter over the outside top and bottom of the sandwich.

  6. 6

Heat a large skillet or sandwich press over medium heat.

  7. 7

Place the sandwich in the skillet and use a heavy pan or press to weigh it down firmly.

  8. 8

Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these sandwiches hot while the cheese is still gooey. If you have any leftovers, store them in the fridge and reheat them in a pan to keep that crusty bread texture.
