This creamy sauce is a staple in my kitchen whenever I want to add a bright pop of flavor to a meal. It is very similar to a classic tzatziki, but the addition of mayo and sour cream makes it extra rich and smooth.

I love serving this alongside grilled salmon or as a refreshing topping for grain bowls. If you have extra time, let the sauce sit in the fridge for an hour before serving to let all those fresh flavors meld together perfectly.

Ingredients

  • 1 large cucumber, peeled, seeded, and finely grated
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much water as you can.

  2. 2

In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the sour cream, mayonnaise, dill, lemon juice, and minced garlic.

  3. 3

Fold in the squeezed cucumber until well combined.

  4. 4

Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. 5

Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until you are ready to eat.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. If the sauce gets a little watery after sitting, just give it a quick stir before serving. This goes great with pita bread or fresh crunchy vegetables.
