Crispy Homemade Pork Katsu
A classic Japanese comfort food featuring juicy breaded pork cutlets with a tangy sauce.
dailyrecipesbook.comPork katsu is a real favorite in our house whenever we are craving something crispy and satisfying. It is just like the version you order at your favorite Japanese restaurant but so simple to put together in your own kitchen.
My top tip is to make sure your oil is nice and hot before you add the pork so you get that perfect golden crust without the meat getting greasy. Serve it up with some shredded cabbage and a scoop of rice for a complete meal.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless pork loin chops
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/4 cup tonkatsu sauce for serving
Instructions
- 1
Place each pork chop between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them until they are about half an inch thick.
- 2
Season both sides of the pork lightly with salt and pepper.
- 3
Set up three shallow bowls. Put the flour in the first, the beaten egg in the second, and the panko breadcrumbs in the third.
- 4
Dredge each pork chop in the flour, then dip it into the egg, and finally press it firmly into the panko until it is fully coated.
- 5
Heat about an inch of oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
- 6
Fry the pork cutlets for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they are deep golden brown and cooked through.
- 7
Drain the cutlets on a wire rack or paper towels before slicing them into strips.
- 8
Drizzle with tonkatsu sauce and serve warm.
๐ก Tips
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. To keep them crispy, reheat the cutlets in an oven or toaster oven rather than the microwave. Serve with a side of steamed rice and a crisp cabbage salad for the best experience.
