There is something so satisfying about a crisp slaw that balances sweetness with a little tang. This version is a staple at my house whenever we fire up the grill because the sesame flavors pair so well with grilled meats and fish.

You can easily customize this by adding shredded rotisserie chicken if you want to turn it into a main dish for a quick lunch. I always recommend letting it sit in the fridge for about twenty minutes before serving so the cabbage softens just enough while staying perfectly crunchy.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 2 cups shredded purple cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup toasted sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the green cabbage, purple cabbage, shredded carrots, and green onions into a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

In a small jar or bowl, whisk together the sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey, and grated ginger until well combined.

  3. 3

Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss everything together until the slaw is evenly coated.

  4. 4

Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds over the top before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. If you find the cabbage gets a bit soft after a day, just drain off the extra liquid before serving. This slaw tastes best when served chilled.
