There is something so satisfying about a warm sandwich that hits every flavor note at once. This version takes a simple turkey sandwich to the next level by adding crisp apple slices and melted Gouda cheese for a sophisticated twist that feels special even on a busy weekday.

I love serving this when I want something cozy for lunch. The key is to toast the bread just enough so it stays crunchy while the cheese gets nice and gooey. If you are in a rush, you can easily use pre cooked bacon strips to save a little time.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 8 ounces sliced deli turkey
  • 4 slices of Gouda cheese
  • 4 strips of cooked crispy bacon
  • 1 crisp apple thinly sliced
  • 2 cups mixed salad greens
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. 1

Whisk the olive oil and lemon juice together in a small bowl and toss with the salad greens to lightly dress them.

  2. 2

Spread a little mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.

  3. 3

Layer the turkey, Gouda slices, bacon, and apple slices between the bread.

  4. 4

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  5. 5

Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

  6. 6

Open the sandwiches carefully to tuck in the dressed greens before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these sandwiches alongside a cup of tomato soup for a comforting meal. If you have leftovers, store the greens separately so the bread does not get soggy. You can also wrap the sandwiches in foil to keep them warm for a few minutes before eating.
