Hearty Italian Ciabatta Sandwich
A satisfying and delicious sandwich stacked with savory deli meats and fresh toppings on crusty ciabatta bread.
dailyrecipesbook.comThere is nothing quite like a well made ciabatta sandwich to hit the spot for lunch. The combination of chewy, airy bread with layers of salty deli meats and creamy provolone cheese makes for a perfect afternoon meal that feels special every time.
My favorite secret for this recipe is to use quick pickled onions, as they add a nice bright crunch that cuts through the richness of the meat. You can customize the fillings with whatever you have in your fridge, but the classic combination of ham, salami, and provolone is always a hit with my family.
Ingredients
- 1 large ciabatta loaf
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices salami
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup fresh arugula
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1
Place the red onion slices in a small bowl with the red wine vinegar and a pinch of salt. Let them sit for at least 15 minutes to soften and pickle.
- 2
Slice the ciabatta loaf in half lengthwise and lightly toast the cut sides if you like a bit of extra crunch.
- 3
Mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard together in a small bowl, then spread the mixture evenly over both sides of the bread.
- 4
Layer the salami and ham onto the bottom half of the bread, then top with the provolone cheese slices.
- 5
Toss the arugula with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper in a small bowl.
- 6
Drain the pickled onions and arrange them over the cheese, then top with the dressed arugula.
- 7
Place the top half of the ciabatta on the sandwich, press down gently, and slice into individual portions to serve.
๐ก Tips
To prevent the bread from getting soggy, assemble the sandwich right before you are ready to eat. If you want to pack this for a picnic, keep the dressed arugula in a separate container and add it just before serving.
