There is nothing quite like the bright, tangy flavor of homemade tartar sauce to brighten up a fried fish dinner. It comes together in just a few minutes using pantry staples, and once you try it fresh, you will never want to buy the jarred stuff again.

My favorite thing about this sauce is how versatile it is. While it is a classic pairing for seafood, I love dipping crispy roasted potatoes or fresh veggie sticks into it for an extra kick of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • A pinch of salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chopped pickles, and capers.

  2. 2

Stir in the lemon juice, dill, and Dijon mustard until well combined.

  3. 3

Taste the sauce and add a pinch of salt and pepper to your preference.

  4. 4

Cover the bowl and let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving so the flavors can blend together.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. This sauce tastes even better the next day after the flavors have had time to meld.
