There is something so satisfying about a juicy steak dinner that does not take all night to prepare. The honey and soy marinade creates a beautiful glaze that tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen, but it actually comes together very quickly.

I love serving this on warm summer evenings when I want something flavorful but light. If you have some good crusty bread on hand, it is perfect for soaking up all the extra ponzu sauce left on the plate.

Ingredients

  • 2 sirloin steaks
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon ponzu sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ciabatta bread for serving

Instructions

  1. 1

Whisk together the soy sauce, honey, ponzu, and garlic in a small bowl to create your marinade.

  2. 2

Place the steaks in a shallow dish and pour half of the marinade over them. Let them sit for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the salad.

  3. 3

In a medium bowl, combine the cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Season with a little salt and pepper, then set aside.

  4. 4

Heat a heavy skillet over medium high heat. Add the steaks and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.

  5. 5

Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

  6. 6

Pour the remaining marinade into the hot skillet for a minute to thicken it into a glaze, then drizzle it over the sliced steak.

  7. 7

Serve your steak alongside the tomato salad and a few slices of toasted ciabatta.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover steak in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. The tomato salad is best eaten fresh, but it holds up okay for a few hours if kept at room temperature. Use a meat thermometer to ensure your steak is cooked exactly how you like it.
