Ground turkey is a fantastic staple to keep in your freezer because it cooks up so fast and pairs well with almost any seasoning you have in your cupboard. This skillet meal is one of my favorite ways to use it since it creates a hearty base for tacos or rice bowls.

I love making this on busy nights when I need something healthy but do not have much time. If you want a little extra flavor, try adding a squeeze of lime juice or some fresh cilantro right before you serve it.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until they are soft, which usually takes about five minutes.

  3. 3

Add the ground turkey to the pan and use a wooden spoon to break it into small pieces as it browns.

  4. 4

Stir in the minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.

  5. 5

Continue cooking for another five to seven minutes until the turkey is fully cooked through and no longer pink.

  6. 6

Serve warm over your favorite grains or inside taco shells.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can also freeze this cooked turkey for later, which makes it great for busy meal prep days.
