If you love that fresh, tangy sauce from your favorite burrito shop, you are going to be so happy with this version. It is incredibly simple to whip up at home, and it has that perfect balance of cooling creaminess and a little bit of heat from roasted jalapeños.

My favorite way to use this is to swap it for plain sour cream on taco night. A quick tip is to make sure you roast the jalapeños until they are slightly charred, as it brings out a wonderful depth of flavor that really makes this sauce taste like the real deal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, packed
  • 1 large jalapeño, roasted and seeded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Roast the jalapeño over an open flame or under a broiler until the skin is charred, then remove the stem and seeds.

  2. 2

Place the roasted jalapeño, sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, cumin, and salt into a blender or food processor.

  3. 3

Pulse or blend the ingredients until the sauce is smooth and the cilantro is finely incorporated.

  4. 4

Taste the sauce and add a little more salt or lime juice if you prefer, then serve immediately or chill in the fridge.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. This sauce is excellent drizzled over chicken tacos, burrito bowls, or even used as a dip for fresh veggie sticks.
