Making chicken shawarma at home has never been easier thanks to the air fryer. You get those lovely crispy edges on the chicken that taste just like the traditional version, but without needing a rotisserie or a hot oven all day.

I love serving this with warm pita bread, a dollop of creamy garlic sauce, and fresh cucumber salad. It is a fantastic way to bring bold, aromatic flavors to your dinner table in under thirty minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and all the spices.

  2. 2

Add the chicken strips to the bowl and toss well until they are evenly coated in the marinade.

  3. 3

Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the fridge if you have the time.

  4. 4

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  5. 5

Place the chicken strips in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if necessary so they do not overlap too much.

  6. 6

Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.

  7. 7

Remove the chicken and serve immediately while hot.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these chicken strips inside warm pita pockets with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and a generous drizzle of tahini or tzatziki sauce. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat them quickly in the air fryer to maintain the texture.
