Old Bay is a staple seasoning that adds a wonderful savory punch to everything from seafood boils to roasted vegetables. Since it is not always available at every grocery store, I developed this simple homemade version that mimics the original flavor profile perfectly using spices you likely already have on hand.

This blend relies heavily on celery salt and celery seed to get that distinct taste that fans of the original love. It is quick to mix together and brings a fantastic herby finish with just a tiny bit of heat to your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon paprika (sweet is best)
  • 1 tablespoon ground celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Gather all your spices and a small mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Measure the celery salt, paprika, celery seed, dry mustard, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper into the bowl.

  3. 3

Whisk the ingredients together thoroughly until the mixture is uniform.

  4. 4

Transfer the blend to an airtight container or a small glass jar for storage.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your seasoning in a cool, dry place in an airtight jar for up to one year. Since this blend already contains salt, remember to taste your food before adding any additional salt to your dish.
