The Perfect Fresh Tomato Toast
A simple and classic tomato toast that makes the most of garden fresh ingredients.
There is something truly special about a ripe tomato on crispy bread. It is one of those simple pleasures that feels like summer no matter what time of year it is.
My secret to the best toast is to use high quality olive oil and a generous pinch of flaky sea salt. It really wakes up the flavor of the tomatoes without needing much else.
Ingredients
- 2 thick slices of sourdough bread
- 1 large ripe tomato
- 1 clove of garlic
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Flaky sea salt to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- Optional fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- 1
Toast your bread slices until they are golden brown and nice and crispy.
- 2
Take your garlic clove and rub it directly onto the warm toasted bread so the flavor infuses into the crust.
- 3
Slice your tomato into thick rounds or wedges and layer them generously over the bread.
- 4
Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the tomatoes.
- 5
Finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, some black pepper, and a few fresh basil leaves if you like.
๐ก Tips
Use the ripest tomatoes you can find for the best flavor. If you have leftovers, store the toasted bread separately from the tomatoes so the bread stays crunchy for your next meal.
