Turkish Chicken Kabobs (Tavuk ลiล)
These tender chicken kabobs are packed with smoky, savory flavor from a traditional Turkish red pepper paste marinade.
dailyrecipesbook.comTurkish chicken kabobs are one of my favorite meals to share with friends and family. The secret is the vibrant marinade, which uses sweet red pepper paste, dried mint, and a handful of warming spices to create a deep flavor that really makes the meat stand out.
Since I started making these, they have become a staple in my house for quick weeknight dinners and backyard barbecues. I recommend using chicken thighs because they stay juicy and tender on the grill, giving you a perfect bite every single time.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon dried mint
- 1 teaspoon crushed red chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Turkish sweet red pepper paste
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1 inch pieces
Instructions
- 1
Whisk the olive oil, dried mint, red chili flakes, thyme, Aleppo pepper, tomato paste, red pepper paste, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth.
- 2
Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss until they are completely coated in the marinade.
- 3
Cover the bowl and let the chicken sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, or refrigerate it overnight for even deeper flavor.
- 4
Preheat your grill to high heat.
- 5
Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers, leaving a tiny bit of space between each piece to help them cook evenly.
- 6
Place the skewers on the hot grill and cook for about 12 minutes, turning them every few minutes until they are charred and cooked through.
- 7
Let the skewers rest for 5 minutes on a platter before serving warm with rice and sauce.
๐ก Tips
Store any leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. These kabobs taste wonderful served alongside a cool cucumber yogurt dip and a side of fluffy steamed rice.
