Classic Fresh Heirloom Tomato Salad
This simple, fresh salad highlights the juicy sweetness of peak summer tomatoes with just a few pantry staples.
There is nothing quite like the taste of a sun warmed tomato straight from the garden or the farmers market. This salad is my go to way to celebrate summer bounty because it takes almost no time to put together but looks beautiful on any dinner table.
My top tip for this recipe is to use the best olive oil you have on hand. Since there are so few ingredients, the quality of the oil really shines through in the final dish.
Ingredients
- 4 large heirloom tomatoes, sliced
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
- 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
- 1
Arrange the sliced tomatoes on a large serving platter in an overlapping pattern.
- 2
Scatter the fresh basil leaves evenly over the top of the tomato slices.
- 3
Drizzle the olive oil and balsamic glaze over the salad in a light stream.
- 4
Finish by sprinkling the sea salt and black pepper over everything just before you are ready to serve.
๐ก Tips
Serve this salad alongside crusty bread to soak up the juices. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one day, though it is definitely best when enjoyed fresh.
