Easy Homemade Chicken Bulgogi
A flavorful and quick Korean inspired chicken dish that caramelizes beautifully in the pan.
dailyrecipesbook.comThere is something so satisfying about the sweet and savory combination in this chicken bulgogi. By using chicken thighs, the meat stays juicy while the marinade creates those perfect charred edges that everyone loves. It is a favorite in our house because it feels like a special meal but comes together with very little effort.
My top tip for this recipe is to grate the Asian pear directly into the marinade. The enzymes in the fruit help tenderize the chicken while adding a wonderful subtle sweetness that balances the salty soy sauce perfectly.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1/2 Asian pear, grated
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon gochujang
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the grated pear, soy sauce, brown sugar, gochujang, minced garlic, sesame oil, and ginger.
- 2
Add the chicken slices to the bowl and toss until well coated. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- 3
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium high heat.
- 4
Add the chicken in a single layer. You may need to work in batches to avoid crowding the pan.
- 5
Cook the chicken for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through and the edges are slightly caramelized.
- 6
Garnish with sliced green onions before serving warm.
๐ก Tips
Serve this over a bed of steamed white rice or inside lettuce wraps with a side of kimchi. You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat them gently in a skillet.
