Soft boiled eggs are a true refrigerator staple that everyone should know how to prepare. They are inexpensive, quick to cook, and work perfectly on top of avocado toast, inside a warm bowl of ramen, or just eaten with a sprinkle of salt for a healthy morning snack.

My favorite way to cook them is using a gentle boil method that ensures the white sets properly while leaving that gorgeous liquid gold center. It only takes about six minutes of boiling time, so you can have a nutritious meal ready in no time at all.

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • Water for boiling
  • Ice water for the ice bath

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil over medium high heat.

  2. 2

Carefully lower the cold eggs into the boiling water using a spoon to prevent cracking.

  3. 3

Set a timer for exactly six minutes to get that perfect jammy yolk consistency.

  4. 4

While the eggs boil, prepare a small bowl filled with cold water and ice cubes.

  5. 5

Once the timer goes off, immediately remove the eggs from the boiling water and drop them into the ice bath for three minutes to stop the cooking process.

  6. 6

Gently tap the shells to crack them, peel carefully, and serve immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store unpeeled boiled eggs in the refrigerator for up to five days. To peel them more easily, try using eggs that are not super fresh, as older eggs tend to peel better after boiling.
