Labor Day is the perfect time to fire up the grill and enjoy the last bit of summer with your friends and family. These burgers are a staple at my house because they are simple to make and always hit the spot when you want a classic meal outdoors.

My top tip for the best flavor is to keep the meat cold until you are ready to put it on the grill. If you want to make them extra special, toast your buns on the grill for a minute to get that nice golden crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • Ketchup and mustard to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties.

  2. 2

Season both sides of each patty generously with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

Preheat your grill to medium high heat.

  4. 4

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium doneness.

  5. 5

Place a slice of cheese on each burger during the last minute of cooking so it melts perfectly.

  6. 6

Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving on the buns with your favorite toppings.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these with a side of potato salad or grilled corn for a full backyard feast. You can store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat them in a skillet over low heat with a splash of water to keep them juicy.
