This turkey picadillo is a lighter version of the traditional dish my family has loved for years. It is packed with savory veggies and a homemade sazon seasoning that gives it such a wonderful flavor. It is a fantastic option for busy weeknights when you want something comforting but healthy.

You can make this right on your stovetop in one pot or let your slow cooker do all the heavy lifting while you are away. If you have any extra time, try browning the turkey well before adding the liquids to get a little extra depth of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can tomato sauce (8 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon homemade sazon seasoning
  • 1/2 cup pimento stuffed olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup raisins, optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

If using the stovetop, brown the turkey in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked.

  2. 2

Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pan, cooking until they soften.

  3. 3

Stir in the tomato sauce, sazon seasoning, olives, and raisins if using them.

  4. 4

Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 15 minutes so the flavors can blend together.

  5. 5

If using a slow cooker, add all ingredients to the pot and stir well.

  6. 6

Cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours until the vegetables are tender.

  7. 7

Season with salt and pepper to your liking before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this dish over warm white rice, with a side of tortillas, or even with crunchy chips for a fun snack. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
